Angel Alexander
About
Angel Alexander was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, with a lifelong commitment to advocating for underrepresented communities, and giving a voice to the voiceless. Her professional journey reflects a consistent focus on equity, accountability, and access to justice. As an employment associate at Benton Employment Law, PC, she helps advocate for equality—regardless of title or prestige—when an employee’s rights are violated in the workplace.
Angel earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, followed by a Master of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology and Occupational Health from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. During graduate school, she completed her thesis using data collected through research at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City, Nigeria. She later worked as a research assistant at the Duke Clinical Research Institute before relocating to California in 2013, where she joined the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in disease surveillance.
While working at CDPH, Angel witnessed firsthand how workplace conditions, systemic inequities, and policy decisions directly affect individuals’ health and economic stability. This became the catalyst for her transition to law in pursuit of broader, lasting change.
Angel earned her Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California. During law school, she was actively involved with Students for Sensible Drug Policy, helping organize expungement clinics throughout the Bay Area to assist individuals with clearing cannabis-related convictions and accessing opportunities in the newly legalized industry.
Angel began her legal career as a law clerk at the Law Offices of John Burris, where she worked on complex civil rights litigation, including Anthony Nuñez v. City of San Jose, which resulted in a $2.3 million verdict. In 2021, she joined Pointer & Buelna, LLP as a provisionally licensed trial attorney, handling high-impact civil rights matters, including police misconduct cases. Her work contributed to a record-setting $8 million settlement with the City of San Jose.
Angel’s transition into employment litigation grew naturally from her civil rights practice. Her first employment case involved racial discrimination against three African American construction workers and ultimately resolved for $3 million. Since then, Angel has represented employees in a vast array of matters including but not limited to: sexual harassment, race discrimination, disability discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and §1981 violations. Angel is committed to achieving meaningful results through strategic, and compassionate, advocacy for employees, managers, and executives.
In her free time, Angel enjoys birdwatching, hiking, and spending time with her husband, her five-year-old daughter, and their giant schnauzer, August.
